The PDO Arzúa-Ulloa controls and certifies this traditional product being the 1st Galician cheese to have an official recognition in 1989 as Galician product of quality (Produto Galego de Calidade Queixo Arzúa-Ulloa) and later the Protected Designation of Origin Arzúa-Ulloa.
The geographic area of this PDO includes the comarcas of Arzúa, Terra de Melide, A Ulloa, Chantada and some municipalities in the districts of Santiago, Ordes, Betanzos and Lugo.
This zone is both the one producing the milk to make DPO Arzúa-Ulloa cheeses and the one making those cheeses.
The Arzúa-Ulloa cheese is made from whole fresh cow’s milk which can not contain colostrums, additives or medicinal products. |
